I will not apologize for my views or my language...mostly because I never apologize unless I mean it.
Many people I know in my home town who are willing to dismiss all skateboarders, pot smokers, the shifty and the shiftless and prisoners as barely human. Some even go so far as to say that one of the kids in the aforementioned segment of the population who died because he was hit by a train after curfew (because our curfew works so well *rolls eyes*) got what he deserved. I'm sorry, did that skateboarder block the view of your white picket fence? Hypocrite. Closet alcoholic. Wife beater...not the skateboarder, I'm talking to you...yeah you, the guy with fence.
I grew up with these kids, I was these kids...at heart I still am these kids...I did stupid $@@# i shouldn't have...nothing too serious, minor graffiti, yelling at cops from the park when we knew they couldn't tell who was who, shoplifting a on a dare...the usual stuff board teens do...and that's the biggest problem (aside from what happens at home of course, but well never know about that unless we get the latest gossip at the Legion during bingo night).
THE KIDS ARE BOARD...just give them something to do....it's really quite simple.
but here's the other problem facing our town, no one wants to do anything more than complain about them. You know what people around here are like..."oh so-and-so's wife is sleeping with him." or "I heard so-and-so's son is gay....it's such a shame, he WAS such a nice boy." or my personal favorite "Look at so-and-so's daughter (actually not me) she's gothic, dyed her nice blond hair black...wears all that awful make up all down her face...she looks like a clown! ha ha ha"....yeah, nice guys.
Why can't people just leave each other alone?
These people don't want to "fix" the "problem" just degrade these kids, many of whom act this way because of the preconceived notions about them.
I admit, I wasn't exactly a model child or student...I did stupid stuff (see previous paragraph), but most of the stuff I actually got into trouble for wasn't my fault- I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I was also pegged as a "problem child" because of my ADHD/ADD (whichever you prefer)...I figured if I was going to get into trouble I might as well do something to earn it and have some fun along the way.
At the absolute height of my high schools fake bomb threat scares I could be found standing on someone's shoulders trying to set the sprinkler system off with a lit cigarette and some bubble gum (BTW that doesn't work very well). I still, at 23 and with a master's degree, consider that a fun time and would probably try it again.
I never broke into someone's home or anything....never even got arrested (somehow)...but my point is this town is useless to board kids who aren't status quo.
That's why the do half of the stuff they do, there is nothing else to do unless you wanna go play sports...we have tennis courts (yuppies unite!), nature trails, ONE basketball court and baseball fields...we also have one really crappy skate park...all one level, plywood ramps...no wonder these kids "play" with the picnic tables.
These kids, generally speaking, aren't really the sporty type (unless you count skate boarding, which I do). No jocks here dude.
Yes, I realize there is such a thing as personable responsibility, but did you ever think that maybe the kids wouldn't screw up so much if there was something around here to do that interested THEM? and not the preps and jocks...hhmmmm?
There is no theater, decent mall, arcade, decent skate park or record store within a 50 minute drive of this town- give them something to do that they're actually interested in and maybe they won't break so much stuff out of sheer boredom.

Have you all been adults so long that you've forgotten what it's like to have no money, no job, no car and nothing to do in a very small rural area?
Have you all been adults so long that you've smothered and killed the kid inside of you?
For all of you that think I'll grow out of this "phase" I say to you:
I WILL NEVER BE YOU...YOU are the person who has no life, no concept of freedom, of self expression, of being young...you my friend, have died long before your body starts to rot away.
All these kids (and me) will live free till the day we die because we are different than you...and THAT is why you hate us.
