Chapter 1: Anastasia Willows
She ran down the endless corridor, running out of breath. The walls were closing in on her but she kept running. "No!", she screamed. "Please don't!!" The phantasmal figure of a woman at the end kept flying backwards, "I'm sorry..it is time" it whispered. All of a sudden a loud beeping sound shook the room and Anastasia sat up in a jolt in her bed. "Not again.." she groaned. The nightmare had been constant for the past month and a half and there was no way of getting rid of it.
The brisk morning air had a tint of red to it, hinting at the fact that autumn was coming. Anastasia hopped out of bed and tied her long brunette hair back. She had to make sure to milk the cows before going out to get her school supplies. Her last year in college was going to begin tomorrow and she needed to be prepared.
She walked into the bathroom and looked at her herself. She was 5'6" with an atheletic body type. Her dark hair was up in a messy bun and as she looked through those bright emerald green eyes she noticed her imperfections. Giant, lanky, bushy hair, awkward eyes. Great. She thought to herself.
Growing up in Littleton, Nebraska wasn't easy. All the little girls in the school house were blonde hair and blue eyes with a petite stature. Anastasia was always the awkward one. Even her name was separate from Mary-Jo and Elizabeth-Jane or Molly-Sue. So naturally she grew not to like herself.
She took a quick shower and pulled on a pair of jeans and old tee. Running down the stairs she pulled her hair back up and found her dad sitting at the table, reading the Sunday paper and reading coffee.
"Mornin' Pops.." she said pulling the milk out.
"Well hello there. How's my baby girl doing this fine mornin'..?" he replied
"Okay. Hey I'm gonna go milk the cows before leaving to get me stuff" she said.
"Already done" said her father as he turned back to the paper. "You have more important things to do for school today. Go ahead I'll take care of the farm today."
A smile grew on Anastasia's face. Her father never did like her leaving home to go to school that was 4 hours away.
"Thanks Pops" she said kissing him on the cheek while grabbing her purse. "I'll be back in a jiffy."
She opened the door to her red Chevy and hopped in. As she started the engine she grew even more excited for the new school year. Things are getting good. She thought to herself. I finally got Pop's approval and I'm finally going to graduate with my Business Marketing degree. She looked into the rear view mirror and smiled at herself. But as she gripped the steering wheel, tears silently started rolling down her cheeks. She backed out of the driveway and headed towards town.
