people will have to separate it from cutting in that cutting is self harm and scarification creates something beautiful

Scarification and tattooing have been around for "more than awhile". Ancient cultures like the Samoans and the Maori have practiced it for thousands of years, as have many Eastern and African cultures. It has been used as a rite of passage ritual, or to identify certain groups, or to create fear in one's enemies. It used to be considered radical to get a tattoo, like bikers or gang members. (My mother had a fit when my brother got a tattoo in the Army. She insisted he wear a long sleeved shirt when my grandmother was around!) Now, it's fashionable for anyone to get one.

Personally, I don't care for either. Hell, I don't even have my ears pierced! I consider tattooing a form of graffitti on the human body. I find smooth, bare skin most appealing. However, I am not going to judge anyone for what they do to their own bodies. It's a free country after all.
